The Great Sketch Swap of 2016-2017!

You know those crazy "adult coloring books" that seem to be all the rage suddenly? How about some more sophisticated coloring- concept designers share their line work and render the other artist's concepts. A fantastic way to learn another designer's methods and ways of thinking.

Hopefully, I can keep this going; I think it's a great idea! It started with Vaughan Ling and Christian Pearce trading line drawings to render, then Michael Kus and Lorin Wood. So I've managed to get trades going with Vaughan Ling (we traded analog drawings on paper, so I get "Vaughan Original"!), Lorin Wood, and have three more lined up that will be finished and posted later. Thanks everyone for the participation. Please take note of the line artist and the color artist in each image's caption. I invite you to look at the work of each artist if you are not familiar with them already. https://www.artstation.com/artist/lwoodesign https://www.artstation.com/artist/vaughanling

Michal Kus sent this heavy duty machinery encrusted Polish resistance fighter drawing. You KNOW this one would be fun to render; look at all the detail!

Gave Michal Kus's drawing a radical twisted lens view when rendering in color in tribute to Alexander Leydenfrost.

Colored up! I referenced WWII Japanese fighter colors.

Lorin Wood's fresh future take on a compact proportioned Gee Bee racer. My color selection used copious retro chrome and a smog tinted warm haze to light up red metallic flake. Fun to color up the surfacing on this one!

The Lorin Wood swap. My line drawing, digital work and Lorin's color concept- a deep chrome reflecting the blur of sagebrush on a low level pass over a desert and a dark blue zenith sky. https://www.artstation.com/artist/lwoodesign

The "Bullship." My line drawing for Vaughan Ling. Lots of influences- Orguss, Kow, deep sea subs...Texas oil barons?

Vaughan's thorough color work. Take close note of his work on the pilot, who he's given all sorts of character to! brilliant color finish, Vaughan!

So apparently I have a Messenger mailbox that is full of all sorts of interesting stuff that I never looked at. One of the great missed opportunities was a #sketchswap with Michal Kus! So getting back on track with the fun collaboration from months ago, h
