I usually mess around in rough thumbnail massing phase like the upper right for 20-50 sketches, incrementally finding form, interest, and camera angle. Once I hit THAT idea, I tighten up and prep a drawing for digital phase.

Figuring out lighting direction, color and general detail quickly- blur your eyes and you'll visualize the final.
