Renault R8 "Box Chuck"
In the 1970s, our family had a quirky and humble little Renault R8, which was a good family and kindergarten carpool package solution to the gas crisis years. Since then, I've always had nostalgia for the car- this box fender version was something I daydreamed and sketched out four years earlier. Finally took a day to render it fully in box-kit illo style. A car that never existed, but should.
Final illo. From the last stage of illustrating, various "post production" tweaks are given- color and value tuning, a bit of skewing and distorting of the image to add some subtle proportional drama.

Color and lighting block-in. My recollection of the color of our car was this greyish blue. Much more neutral and toward green than the more common bright blue you see in most ref for this car.
Wheels cribbed from another illustration (916/917 Porsche.) A quick solution to steal your own wheels- never use anyone else's. Wheels plant the car and allow you to make adjustments properly in the context of the vehicle.
Background toning makes whites pop on the car. Fascia is cleaned up and rendered with care. Wing endplates rethought to mimic shape of 1960s Renault logo more literally. Rear fenders pulled out further.
Roof work, rally lights, lower corners tightened up.
Glass reflection glare, window framing (I loathe that part) and done. Compare color and contrast to final on package...can you spot the proportional tweaks to the final? "Keystoning" gives the car better stance- slightly cambering the wheels and body out.
Rear wing raised up so that the dihedral is more apparent. Overall value contrast pumped up. Cabin silhouettes added, far glass tinting.
