This is the initial rough sketch and tightened up line drawing (ballpoint pen on paper) from many years ago. I never had a strong color direction for it, so with no vision of its finish, there wasn't much push to render it.

Coming across the sketch, I decided it would be good to take a stab at it in bare metal, one of my favorite material finishes. The background was laid in first to contrast- a frigid possibly alien arctic landscape. Layered analog textures.

Quick value and color rough. Getting the essence of the metal color palette and light direction. Tuning to work warm against the cool background.

First step of tightening up starting with the fuselage and canopy. Pushing value contrast further from the sketch.

Layering on subtle value and hue changes on a semi-transparent layer to indicate variations in the different metal panels. Overlay or multiply layer both work well.

Adding some detail incrementally. The bits of saturation as contrast- yellow definitely are essential for visual interest.

Graphics application. Again, another layer of frosting on the cake to make it more attractive. Graphics should not be overdone and should help emphasize the form.

Playing around with the perspective- I don't stick hard and fast to an exact perspective construction, but will "cheat" things. Here, I've moved the far front pontoon to avoid an awkward overlap with the fuselage.

Lower thruster rendered, scaled up from first sketch. I've also played around with adding color to the leading pontoon tips, but it was not effective.
